SALT is the Scottish Association for Language Teaching.

Our aims are:

  • To promote effective learning and teaching of all languages in Scotland
  • To provide opportunities to exchange information, experience and good practice for everyone concerned with language teaching and learning
  • To organise events promoting professional development
  • To give teachers a voice in expressing their concerns, both at Scottish and UK level
  • To respond on behalf of members to official reports and planning documents issued by the Scottish Government Education Department, SQA, Learning and Teaching Scotland, et al.
  • To liaise with UK-national and international agencies involved in language teaching and learning

Coming Events for 2012

A Taste of multilingual Europe Conference Saturday 15 September 09:30 – 15:30 Venue Goethe-Institut Glasgow Park Circus 3. Modern Language teachers are invited to meet cultures and languages of their European neighbours, learn about some available resources and services as well as exchange ideas and best practice for the Modern Languages classroom and international education. European cultural institutes in co-operation with SALT have put together a programme of information, games and workshops for Modern Languages practitioners. Representatives from a variety of nationalities and languages are invited to display materials and discuss various angles of bringing multiculturalism to life. application form and details can be downloaded here

SPANISH WORKSHOPS IN SCOTLAND 2012. ˇVen a la fiesta en Dundee el 12 de mayo - application form and details can be downloaded here

(Deadline 27 April 2012) The Spanish Consejeria de Educación in Scotland, together with the University of Dundee and SALT, have put together a variety of Spanish Workshops in Scotland for 2012.

Special workshops for Primary school teachers, Secondary, Higher and Further Education teachers. Improved accessibility for teachers from different regions all over Scotland -workshops will be held in Dundee.

A unique opportunity to get some new ideas, share good practice and catch up with colleagues. Teachers who successfully complete these workshops will receive a certificate.
